Impact of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation combined with Modified Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy on Upper Limb Function in Chronic Stroke: a Single Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial
Kim Sun-Ho

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was research the effects of dual-hemisphere transcranial direct current stimulation(dual tDCS) and modified constraint-induced movement therapy group(mCIMT) to improve upper extremity motor function after stroke.

Method : The study period was from August , 2019 to November, 2019, to 24 patients who were suitable for selection criteria. Participants were divided into two groups: dual tDCS and mCIMT, and sham dual tDCS and mCIMT group. Both groups performed mCIMT for 30 minutes immediately after 20 minutes of tDCS and performed 5 times a week for a total of 4 weeks. Fugl?Meyer assessment (FMA) and Motor Activity Log scale (MAL) were analyzed before and after four weeks of intervention.

Result : Both groups showed statistically significant changes in FMA, Amount of Use(AOU), Quality of Movement(QOM) of MAL. Group comparison showed improvement on FMA and AOU of MAL in the experimental group compared with the control group.

Conclusion : In order to enhance the effect of improving upper limb function of stroke patients, dual tDCS could be applied to provide more effective treatment in the clinical setting. Further research will be needed to establish a clear protocol for dual tDCS, and this evidence-based intervention protocol is expected to be used as an interventional method for various purposes in the clinical setting.
